Product Description
The Stereo Binocular Viewer allows you to adapt two eyepieces to your telescope and view with both eyes simultaneously. In addition to eliminating eye fatigue associated with viewing through one eye for a prolonged period of time, this 1.25-inch bino viewer also provides a three-dimensional effect when you're observing many celestial objects. In addition, it will improve contrast on deep-sky objects and solar system objects. The Stereo Binocular Viewer is designed to work with Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes (SCT) and many refracting telescopes. The Stereo Binocular Viewer requires you use two eyepieces of equal focal lengths and optical design. Your telescope will come with one or more eyepieces - you will need to purchase a matching eyepiece for use with the binoviewer. Most people really don't need this, but I purchased it due to some vision issues that are coming on as I get older. Being able to integrate images from both eyes can be helpful in improving apparent contrast and reducing eyestrain in older folks. However, buying this also means having to invest in an extra set of eyepieces, so this is a luxury and not a necessity. I suppose being a luxury could be said about having a telescope system in the first place! The bottom line is that this will not make a tremendous difference for most people, but it will make a difference for those people who feel uncomfortable or limited with monocular viewing. Having been an observer most of my life, I knew the time had come to buy this. The build quality is very good and I have no complaints. Be aware that you will have to rebalance your telescope when you use this, so while that is not a big deal, it does need to be done. Also this viewer can get into the way of your mount, so you may need to remove it before using a computer controlled slewing system. Otherwise it could possibly smack into your mount, which would not be a good thing. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Celestron Stereo Binocular Viewer for Telescopes" are high quality item.
