AmScope Canon and Nikon SLR / DSLR Camera Adapter for Microscopes NEW! Review

I love this adapter! It gives me the same view as the 10x eyepieces, only rectangular of course, when paired with my Sony NEX 5n and Fotasy EOS-NEX adapter. It is listed as 2x but along with the adapters and APS-C sensor it works out very close to what I see in the 10x evepieces. IMHO the optics are superb at this price point.

Image quality is far better than my eyes can resolve, especially when cropped. I am using this on the Trinoc port of the Amscope T490B.

This is the 'kit' version, meaning it includes adapters for multiple camera mounts. Note: included mounts are for the more modern cameras e.g. Canon EOS (not FD). I have not used the Oly or Nikon's adapters yet but should I decide its nice to know I have them.

Focusing is all manual but once you set the camera in Aperture Priority mode and get the camera focus right, which is the barrel distance into the trinoc port, the camera will shoot whatever the scope is focused on.

I started with an inexpensive Celestron 44421 Imager which quickly became frustrating fuzzy and over magnified - cropped what I was looking at through the eyepieces in half. The reviews I read on USB camera imagers was not looking a whole lot better so I decided to give this adapter a try.

I was blown away by the the quality of the optics. I'm a hobbyist but know what I see. The build quality is also very sturdy - it slides down into my trinoc port aprox. 3/4" - I put a few o-rinks around the barrel to get the focus distance correct. The kit also comes with adapters to fit larger eyepieces and trinoc ports but you will not need them on the Amscope. I may machine one of them down for exact focus every use if my o-rings move or wear. I remove the adapter when covering the scope. The camera is multipurpose!

The trinoc port on the Amscope T490B appears to be vertical which prevents much side loading on the gear. I would be a bit concerned, not with this adapter, but with all the other pieces if mounting through an angled port, such as an eyepiece, with a heavy DSLR camera. I also use a remote shutter release to prevent camera shake.

I would not hesitate to purchase this again, forbid it ever disappear!
