I own one of nearly every design of tripod head - video, ball head, squeeze level ball, and full geared head. I had purchased this thinking it was a mini geared head which is the fraction of the size and weight of my 3275, so I was a bit disappointed to find it wasn't geared.

My disappointment quickly faded as I began using it. The knobs are placed in intuitive locations, unlike my previous geared head. On the 3275 I always confused the left-right tilt with forward-back tilt. Not so on then 460MG. The knobs are right where they should be for a right-handed person. I also liked being able to quickly move from horizontal to vertical with a single twist to loosen, rather than many tuns of the geared head. It's also much smaller and lighter.

The advantage over a ball head is I can lock in a particular axis and work the others. With a ball, it's all or nothing. With the 460MG, I can level the camera horizontally first, then work on tilt and rotate. And, since there is no weight on the rotate axis I can leave that free.

The problem I had with my squeeze level balls is that, no matter how gently I release my grip from the lever it always knocks the camera just a bit off axis. Not so with this head. I can tighten up a knob just a bit, fine-tune it, and lock it down.

The 460MG has quickly become my favorite head for landscape photography. It supports up to 6.6 pounds.
