Leica 10 x 50 Ultravid HD Binocular, Black Armored - 40296 Review

gasp..these binos are full of gasp.

the first gasp was seeing the price tag. even my wife gasped!!! now everytime i take them out and look, i gasp. no exceptions. i had the worst internal struggle. should i buy Leica or Swarovski? this is the ultimate debate..just like Ford vs Chevy, Coke vs Pepsi..etc. i drove every binocular salesman crazy. understandably, every salesman will want you to buy what they sell. in the end, i found a smoking good deal and ended up with these beauties..Ultravid 10x50's. here is my review.

my goal was 10x42's. i got these at a local shop for the same money, so i jumped. first impressions, they are HUGE, and fairly heavy. much bigger than 10x42's. i am a bowhunter, so i use them for that purpose. if you are as well, keep in mind that mounting them on a tripod system is pretty much a pipe dream. sure a company out there makes a mounting bracket for them. but what is involved is: you have to take pliers and yank off that nose cap. i didnt not have the will to take tools to my brand new binoculars. no way!! not even sure if it would void the warranty. i'm not a super fan of the lens covers. i put them away and invested in a chest carried pouch. i also carry cleaning kits..any dirt, grime..i address right away. i now just use the lens caps during long storage periods. pulling them on/off is a pain. the front caps will dangle off the binos..but the eye side..you have to pocket them. (i got a bino pouch from FHF gear. he custom built me one. it is wonderful)

i feel these binoculars are super clear as far as focus. this is the first pair i have found that allow the user to focus each eye individually, lock it down, and "Gang adjust" the main focus during use. most binos if found just let you adjust the right eye.

clarity? sure..super clear. sometimes i feel like the create light. at the low light levels of the arizona desert..i can glass earlier than usual. compared to my previous pair, the differences are obvious. edge to edge distance..honestly, i bet it is better on the swarvos..i can focus on a distance object, and move the object to the edge of the bino view..it goes out of focus at the very edge. next time i hunt with my buddy with the Swavos, i will compare with the exact same distant object.

they feel great in my hands. they are super stout, super comfy, and i can work all the knobs with gloves on. i can stare thru them for hours. if i had them on tripods, i would love them more. i registered them with Leica, and the process couldnt have been easier. i feel like i'm part of an exclusive club now.

buy them..well, buy the best binoculars. dont spend alot of money on lesser glass only to find you in the same place as myself. i could have gotten two pairs by now..hahah.

hope i never have to test the warranty repair process..if i do, i will edit this post appropriately.

trust me..you will gasp too.
