Review:
It turns out there are various subtypes: P1273, P1273n, P1273B, P1273i. This review is for the P1273 only.
- The P1273 plain version does not have any filters, nor a regular USB port.
- Easy to set up and use.
- I like the automatic keystone correction feature.
- The horizontal and vertical controls on the menu are only for centering the laptop projection in the screen (by millimeters). You cannot move the projection sideways on the wall like an offset feature would.
- The unit has two separate menus and their submenus. I would prefer one menu system.
- the large directional arrow buttons on the remote, going from side to side, control the volume. (Manual doesn't describe it.)
- Remote control buttons for USB A and USB B, LAN, and wifi don't work because this unit doesn't have those features.
- The remote control does have some nice features: an integrated laser pointer, freeze, hide, and source.
- If you don't want to mess with cables and don't mind paying twice as much, go with wifi on a competing model.
- I wish the picture were sharper and brighter but this is the current limit of the technology. I'm still very pleased with it. It is much better than many other models I considered. (Basically ones that were available cheaper on eBay, used.)
- It is not bulky. It's a compact model, not as small as one more expensive, but very portable. Basically, the cabling and extension cord I bought take up just as much space.
- Plan on buying a security lock. It has both the laptop style hole and also a separate bar. The instructions say little about either.

Problems:
1). Turns out the mini-usb port is only used to control a slideshow. I mean things like page up and page down while connected to a laptop. It cannot be used as a connection to the laptop for video or sound = still need some other cable like VGA + audio, or HDMI.
2). I wish the instructions had told me which cables / formats carried both video and sound.
These do: HDMI alone. (Or just use two ports, for example, VGA plus audio--it has a 3.5mm audio connector.)
These don't: VGA, S-video, component video, composite video, ps-2 (old style computer mouse) connector.
3). The separate VGA output port(for a second monitor) only works if you are also using VGA input. It won't function with any other input signal = no conversion is happening inside.
4). I was unable to find any use for the buttons on the remote that indicate play, rewind, fastforward.
5). You will have to buy an HDMI cable. And when you do, you will have a choice of one without an amplification chip in the connector or with an amplification chip. Get the one without. I bought a cable with an amplification chip and it is directional. Plug it into the laptop / projector with the wrong end and the connection is recognized but there is no image until you swap ends around.
6). I ended up buying a lot of cables and connectors. Basically, I decided to go with HDMI as the source and wanted to find DVI, Firewire (1394)400 and 800, Thunderbolt, etc. connectors for Apple / Mac.
