MINOX BV II 62031 10x25 BR Compact Binocular (Black) Review

First off, my last pair of small binoculars were of the poroprism design, so this time I decided to look for a nice pair of roof prism binoculars. I have not been disappointed with these Minox binoculars. I know that Minox represents quality equipment, as I have an older Minox sub-miniature camera. That was my primary reason for purchasing these over some of the lesser priced binoculars.

I am extremely impressed with how bright these binoculars are. When comparing side-by-side with my full size 10X50 Steiners, these mini-binocs are very nearly as bright. The fit and finish is very nice as well. If I were to do it again, I may buy the 8X version, as 10X binoculars can be difficult to hold completely still. Personal preference. I wish small binocs came with lens caps, as I like to leave them out of the case at home.

Pros:
Very bright image.
Nice quality.
Screw-out eyepieces for those that wear glasses (nicer/longer lasting than fold-outs).
Nice soft case and neck strap.
Extremely fast focusing.
Ability to focus very close-up (~4 feet).
Waterproof
Light weight and small.

Cons:
Very sensitive to width adjustment - as many roof prism binoculars seem to be.
When focusing, there is a "dead spot" between focusing directions where the focusing knob turns freely ~1/4 turn - not a big problem, it just bugs me.
No lens caps (not many small binocs come with them).

For the price, this scanner does an admirable job. We've scanned negatives and slides and the quality is really very good. We did an enlarged print of one of the slides we scanned and it is good enough for framing. I guess a professional scanner would do better but who can afford one? This one does the intended job -- converting our old slides and negatives to digital format for convenience and for safe-keeping should anything ever happen to the originals. The instructions are a bit lacking but the unit is fairly simple to figure out and we haven't had any problems. I would recommend this scanner.

Nikon Monarch Riflescope 6-24x50SF (Matte Nikoplex) Review

This is a fabulous rifle scope!!

I purchased it for my Remington 700 ADL and have spent two different days shooting with it. The optics are clear and even in low light situations the scope makes it look like full daylight when sighting on the target. The eye box technology makes high power shooting a dream.
The fact that it comes with almost $200 worth of accessories makes the higher price a bargain. (Two full sets of tall turrets and the sunshade are included.)

The main reason that I am writing this review is to make potential buyers aware of a solution to a problem that I had with this excellent scope. I could not get the scope aligned to where I had symmetrical windage adjustment with the turret. In my ignorance I returned the scope and replaced it with the same model, thinking that I had a defective scope.

That was far from reality; I had an adjustment problem with the mounting on the gun. Apparently the mount screw holes are slightly skewed to where the scope sits angled to the right on this gun. I have since found a solution to that problem and regret returning the original scope.

The solution is windage adjustable scope rings. There is an excellent selection of that type of ring here on Amazon; search: Millett 2 Extension Smooth Steel Angle-Loc Windage Adjustable Ring (I now see that they are out of stock) or at millet themselves; [...].

A simple and elegant solution to a problem that would cause a buyer to return a perfectly good scope when in fact it was a physical mounting problem with the gun itself.

Again, this scope is a fine product and I would recommend it to anyone.

FileMate Joy Series 15-Inch Digital Photo Frame with Alarm and Calendar 3FMPF215BK15-R (Black) Review

I purchased this digital picture frame after already owning a 10" Kodak one that I use at home. The Kodak is very fussy about viewing angle; if you have it tilted up or down, or you are looking at it from the side, you can play the "what is that a picture of?" game. I bought the Filemate Joy 15" frame after reading a review on another site that the viewing angle was much wider. And that is correct. Plus, for the price, it is in reality twice as large as a 10" frame in viewable inches; it's like having a 15" flat-screen monitor with your photos on it.

Images loaded nicely from CF and SD cards, as well as a USB flashdrive that I tried. User Interface is fairly intuitive, although it has a couple little quirks you have to get used to, to be able to save your settings. I have not tried music on the frame, as I have it on all the time at work. I run it 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, and in the 3 weeks I've had it, it has performed flawlessly. A nice feature in the settings menu is the ability to view the photos in their actual resolution. Since the frame has a native resolution of 1024x768, you can resize your images to that before you load them on the card. But if an image is not exactly that, say it is 1024x720, it will load it in that format without trying to stretch or crop it. Just be sure everything is 1024x768 or LESS and the image will look perfect.

The frame itself, is a rather plain, medium-gloss black, but I like that, it looks just like a standard flat-screen monitor border. The remote works well, and is easier to use than accessing the buttons on the back of the device.

I do notice that my photos look darker on the photo frame than they do on my monitor, so I adjusted the Brightness of the frame pretty high to get what I consider to be the proper exposure when viewing them.
Overall I would say
-Viewing angles are excellent
-Screen size is huge
-Price is pretty nice
-no issues to date with reliability
-easy to set up and use.
