First, I have to say, I am an Olympus fan. I have numerous products of theirs. So I am biased (a little), take that into account as you read.

The product came timely and in tact, and I'm deployed overseas. So that is positive.

I started shooting with it the very next day. The camera is pretty darn cool. I own a D300 SLR and it is not, but it comes close. It is pretty quick to power up. The controls are usable (even with flight gloves on). The lens cover sucks. I will be actively searching a better one. There is not an eye piece which I find very nice. I think they are a waste of space on most cameras of this style (pocket) as no one uses them (we all just look at the screen dont we?). Which btw, the screen is way big and clear. Love it. Back to the controls. Simple, however almost chinsey. The zoom toggle is a little loose. I like the position alot,much better than the thumb position, it just feels cheap. The function selector wheel feels similar (cheap). Again, it works well so far and again I am operating it with gloves on (flying) most of the time. But I have used other function control wheels and buttons on their products and they feel very solid and well built. This is a lower priced camera and thus the lower level of quality components I presume. But this is far from a "cheapie" camera too. So, slightly disappointed with those aspects. We'll see how it holds up for the rest of the deployment.

I love the selection of operating modes though. The panoramic is way cool and waaayy easy. You can go horizontal or vertical with your panoramic shots. Cool for mountains. The "magic" mode is pretty cool too. Easy to use but so far there is only one color for the "punk" mode and I am not a fuscia type guy. Other colors would be great.

I love that the lower corner of the screen shows a count down to how many pics and video time you have available on the card. I have yet to see this on any camera at this price point. It is nice to have this info available instead of a running tally and have to guess when it might be full.

The Zoom feature is AWESOME! It comes in and out quickly and auto focus is nice and quick. It keeps up, I love the range on it for how small it is. Very crisp and the focal square remains orange until it gets in focus and then turns green. Cool. Easy. No guessing really. Havent had it long enough to use any manual settings yet.

The first day I used it I did have one problem. The camera wouldnt shut off (thus the lens was extended and couldnt be stored). I resolved it pretty quickly by removing and reinstalling the battery. Issue resolved and hasnt repeated since. I have used it for about a week straight now for at least a couple of hours a day. Battery has been great so far.

The kit that came with it is so-so. The coolest part of it was the USB/SD card converter. The rest, cheap junk. The camera case (lunchbox style) is worthless and not anything like the photo depicts. Not rigid enough to provide any protection and the shape is just wrong. Truly useless and throwing it away. Sucks. Thankfully I have other cases to use. The SD card wallet is worthless too. The velcro will not even hold it closed and I have one card in it (it holds 3). Gimmicks is what the extras add up too. The tri-pod is okay. I have one of them already though.

For a camera this size it is a competent substute for those looking for a compact with a powerful zoom because you love the zoom on your DSLR. It tucks away nicely and takes GREAT pics! The video works great too. I couldnt bring my DSLR with me and this is a great option when it isnt practical to have it with you all the time.

If the lense cover was better and the controls more solid like the other Olympus products I have it'd get 5 stars just for the camera. The kit isnt up to par.

I may update as the months go on.

OK, Update post-deployment. The camera worked great overall. I need to add that the camera survived a fire. It was enclosed in a "Case Logic" zipper close case and it survived a fire. Our aircraft was hit by a 107 round. The aircraft burned completely to the ground. I had the camera on board in my "go" bag in the previously mentioned case. The next day the remnants of my bag (which wasnt but a the very bottom of it) were recovered and the camera was pulled out of the melted case and it turned on immmediately! All the pics are still there and the camera functions as normal. It smells like smoke and has a small area that appears slightly melted and burned but it works as it had before. I intend to send it in to Olympus to see if they can remove the smoke smell but other than that it survived. As I said, the aircraft burned to the ground, very few things were recovered. The case obviously helped tremendously but it was exposed to extreme heat, water and chemicals to put the fire out. Just sayin'

I bought an Olympus PEN setup the next day(after the fire) and love it, so this one is going to be used by my son.
