BSA Optics 6-24x40 Mil-Dot Contender RiflescopeBSA 6-24X40 Contender Series Rifle Scope with Side Parallax Adjustment and Mil-Dot Reticle Review
RECOMMENDATION: Buy it.THE GOOD: True Mil-Dot reticle at the 12x setting. It has a Second Focal Plane reticle, so that means when you zoom up to 24x, the dots are -mil apart, and at 6x they are 2-mils apart.
Good glass. Very clear for target use. On my scope, the parallax adjustment worked at all power settings. I could focus on close and far targets at all power settings.
THE BAD: The documentation is poor.
The Owner's Pamphlet does not provide you with the correct subtensions for the scope. They are as follows:
Given the Scope is set at 12X:
From Crosshairs to middle of first mil dot = 1.0-mil.
Each Mil-Dot is 0.20-mil in diameter.
From Crosshairs to top of first mil dot = 0.90-mil.
Triangle--Vertical height = 1.0-mil.
Triangle--Horizontal width = 1.0-mil.
Triangle--Length of each side = 1.22-mil.
THE COOL: The reticle switched from Mil-Dots to Mil-Triangles at the 4-Mil mark. Conveniently, average deer measure 4-mils from backbone to brisket at 100 yards. So, the reticle makes ranging (deer) very easy.
I mounted the scope on a .22LR for use as a target scope. It was very easy to sight in, and it was certainly fun to use when shooting small 50-yard targets. (On 24x, you can see the .22 holes.) I don't know how well the scope handles recoil. Also, the turret knobs are set up for target use--not rainy day field use.
