Avervision F50 Camera Review

I bought the F50 this summer so I could experiment with it before using it in my classroom.

One of the things I like the most about the F50 is that you can do so much without a computer. You can take hi-resolution snapshots, time lapse photography, annotate images, and even record video and save it to an SD card or a USB flash drive --all without hooking up to a computer.

The images are clear and detailed (5 megapixels). The 8x optical zoom is fantastic. I used it to zoom in on an old coin to reveal detail.

You can control the F50 with the included remote control. It has a lot of buttons but they are well organized.

The 5-year warranty is the best I've ever heard of.

I absolutely love the F50 and will probably be using it every day in my classroom.

Leica 18400 X1 Digital Camera (Black) Review

For starters let me say that I am a professional photographer and I was looking for a camera that I could travel with and be happy. I took a chance on the X1 and it paid off in spades. This is a great camera. I can't imagine what my vacation would have looked like with my D3 and five Nikor lenses, batteries, flash and all of the crap that I could not have traveled without.

The X1 is easy to use and focus's on the art of photography and not the technology behind it. Compose the shot and pull the trigger, that is what it is about. Setting the Aperture and Shutter speed is easy with two dials on the top of the camera. I also purchased the external view finder and that made the camera even easier to use. This camera is very nostalgic in nature and really takes you back to a time where you worried more about composition than you did technology.

A couple of issues to think about. The dials on the top can be easy to turn but not a deal breaker. I placed the camera in my back pack which was next to a bag of ice. The camera got so cold that it fogged up when I got it out, my fault not Leica's.

I am in the hunt for the M9 at this point, just need to find ten to twelve thousand in disposable income...

I would recommend this camera to anyone that wants a great image and easy to use camera.

Pentax 62486 8 X 36 Dcf Nv Binocular Review

I believe that the Pentax 8 x 36 Dcf Nv is a good pair binoculars. However, I am disappointed in a few things about it. First, I'm disappointed that I can not see through them with my glasses on. The 16 mm eye relief is just not enough, at least not for me. Second, I found the right eye focus adjustment very difficult to make when looking through the binoculars; of course once you finally get it set you really should never have to change it again if you are the only one using these binoculars. If these binoculars are to have multiple users, they should be made a little easier to adjust. Although these binoculars can't be readily attached to a tripod, they are threaded for attachment of an adapter which can then be used to mount them on a tripod. I have such an adapter for another (larger) pair of binoculars, but unfortunately that adapter is too wide to fit between the two barrels of this Pentax model. I hope to find an adapter that fits or will eventually make one myself.

Cameras are advertised as weather resistant. First gentle rain and the cameras are wiped out. After several attempts to get with SVAT who manufactures the product, they finally sent the response "as long as they are not subjected to water, rain, or snow". Soooo...it is wind resistant and sun resistant. Told them I would contact the BBB and then they said they would provide return authorization instruction. That hasn't happened either. I would not buy another one of their products nor recommend it to anyone else.

I plan to use this in preschool classrooms where by connecting Dino-Lite to a laptop everyone will be able to see at once the marvels of everyday objects magnified. Young children cannot successfully use typical microscopes, and waiting for a turn to look through a lens is also not a preschooler's forte. I have observed its use in another preschool. After using Dino-Lite the children then drew the tiny mites they had observed on water lettuce in their indoor water feature. A great tool to awaken further curiosity about things to be seen LARGE.

Overall, this kit contained some useful products including the filters, macro lenses, lens hoods, diffusers, cleaning kit and cloths. While the Fisheye, Wide Angle and Telephoto lenses appear to be of some quality for low cost items, the image quality was less than satisfactory. The pictures I took appear to be distorted around the edges and when compared with similar photos taken with the standard camera lens (without the additional lenses) they do not justify the purchase. The purchase and shipping experiences were absolutely terrific and I would definitely use this vendor again. Thanks.
