I bought this lens to give me the excellent photo quality Canon "L" lenses are noted for. I was not wrong. This is a wonderful lens for all the birds, and other wildlife in the backyard of my home. I am going on a trip to Costa Rica in a few weeks, and will be sure to bring it along. I didn't buy the version with IS, just to expensive. But, if you jack up the ISO to above 800, and your aperature to a mid stop around f5-f8 and use a fast shutter around 1/100th of a second you will not see any jitter. Of course it is better set up on a tripod. I would always buy a Canon "L" lens when possible, they are a bit more expensive, but worth every dime.
