Opteka Full Size Professional Director's Viewfinder with 11x Zoom Review
First of all, in comment to the other review here, this thing is not cheaply manufactured by any stretch. It's got a good and solid build quality, got a good weight to it, and the rings turn tight and snug just as any legitimate new lens would. The focus is just fine for me as well, with or without my glasses on. So don't let that discourage you.My only disappointment is that it doesn't go very wide. I shoot a lot with a Canon 5D Mark II and I wanted this thing to help me plan my shots without having to lug around the camera. I couldn't figure out what setting on the Opteka viewfinder was the equivalent to the 5D, since I know that full-frame digital and 35mm film are supposed to be the same I figured that would be it. Unfortunately I didn't realize that 35mm film is measured horizontally and 35mm full-frame digital is measured diagonally.
I did a series of tests with various lenses and aspect ratios, and I've discovered that the equivalent 5D setting on this viewfinder is 'Anamorphic' format, at 16:9. This means that the widest setting on the viewfinder is 35mm lens equivalent, and the longest lens equivalent is 400mm. Since I basically never go more than 200mm, and I often go 24mm or even wider, it isn't the most useful tool in the world for my purposes.
That being said- I've looked into all the other viewfinders I can dig up online, and I've been to Alan Gordon and tried out their proprietary ones, and they all measure out the same way. As far as I can tell there is no existing Director's Viewfinder on the market that goes wider than 35mm. Although the full-size one that Alan Gordon makes does sell a wide angle adapter that you can screw onto the front of their Mark Vb viewfinder, but after purchasing both items you're $850 in the hole. As soon as I can justify the cost though, I'm going that route for sure...

If anyone does find a wider viewfinder out there, please comment and let me know!
