Mefoto C1350Q1T Roadtrip Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod Kits (Titanium) Review

I wanted a travel tripod I could pack in or on a backpack or put into luggage without sacrificing utility. I struggled with the many options until I made up a checklist to compare the various options. My criteria included the material (carbon vs. aluminum), weight carrying capacity, weight of the tripod, number of leg sections, maximum height, folded length, whether a head was included and the price. The negatives were that this Mefoto is not cheap and it has 5 leg sections. The positives were that it folds to a very tidy 15.4 inches, is light weight at 3.1 lb including the head, made of carbon fiber, comes with a perfectly useful head and has an excellent 17.6 lb capacity. When I put scores on the various attributes and compared it with the other Mefoto tripods, and various Gitzo, Sirui, Benro, Manfrotto and Induro models, this one came out the clear winner for me. It did not disappoint and it handles my Canon 6D with a 400 mm f/5.6 lens quite nicely. Also important for me was that the head is compatible with Arca Swiss style quick release plates. It really is compact, meaning I can throw it into any bag or suitcase or even into my camera bag if desired. Of course, the carrying bag that comes with the Mefoto is also quite useful for packing and carrying the tripod.

With 5 sections, there is naturally some vibration when they are all extended. You simply can't have everything in one piece of equipment. My solution is to use a timer, a remote release, short exposure time or fold the bottom sections into the tripod in order to manage vibration. But I was very happy to see that its fully extended length is more than adequate for me and longer than my Manfrotto 190 series tripod. I can recommend this tripod as very adeptly doing exactly what it promises. It's been many years since I've used the checklist approach to help with a decision but in this case it really gave me a clear answer - consider this if you are bewildered by the many attractive options for travel tripods.
