Kodak Easyshare D1025 10-Inch Digital Picture Frame Review

Just purchased this and writing a quick review. I'll do another later if any problems show up.

So far very pleased, upgrading from my old Kodak Easyshare. Couldn't be easier to begin using, plugged it into power and put my USB in and pictures began to roll.

Pictures bright, clear with much less cropping off the bottom of my pictures and controls on the top of the frame very intuitive.

A bit worried when I opened it because of the size then realized the larger frame could be removed leaving just the actual picture with 1 inch rim around which works great for space on desk at work. The frame I removed was very nice however and would look great on a wall, frame would also be easy to shift out to change styles.

One great upgrade it does have a shuffle switch on the top so no more needing to shuffle the pics before loading on the USB. No remote but never found it necessary on my old one, controls on the top and easy to use, even tried the copy pictures to add a few in case my USB or card wasn't with me and very simple.

Now I have had a chance to actually use this product all week at work upgraded from 4 to 5 stars. Absolutely perfect for my desk at work, picture crisp and clear. Especially love the option to watch pics as organized on my flash drive and then switch to shuffle mode and let it choose for me. I also decided to test it with how many pics it could store (stated 4000) 512 mb didn't seem like much but easily copied my 2000 pictures into the frame, quality might be slightly less than off the flash but not enough to make them unwatchable, like going from HD to regular on my TV. Also find the top of frame controls much easier to use than the remote since I can just tap the pause and it will stay on single picture until I come back to desk.

Best thing I've bought since my flat screen HD TV.

Sony DSC-F828 8MP Digital Camera with 7x Optical Zoom Review

I have seen the reports of purple fringing and noise. Here is what I've found. At high ISO settings (above 200) there is alot of noise (big suprise). I usally use the program mode and keep the ISO at 64 and my photos look great.

I have not had the problem with purple fringing. I have tried and tried but I can't reproduce the problem. Is it as good as a $3,000.00 digital SLR? No, even though that's what it is constantly compaired to. The digital SLR that comes close in price is the EOS Digital Rebel. But by the time you buy a couple of lenses you are in the $1,500.00 range, that's 50% more and no you can't take a short video with the EOS. And the DSC-F828 color reproduction is better than the Canon. Is it better that other cameras in it's class? YES! I had a Fuji S7000 and had to return it, the photo quality and focusing problems were horrible. If you want to see purple fringing and noise look at a Fuji S7000 photo! The DSC-F828 takes crisp clear photos under all lighting conditions. It's Auto-focus is super fast and accurate. The camera body is solid. The lens has great range and the macro works great. The camera is EASY to use. You can use the infrared setting to take pictures in the dark without flash (yes they have noise) Or you can use the night framing to take a normal flash photo in the dark and they look great. Why 4 stars and not 5? The only drawback is that there is no black&white setting. I like to see what a photo is going to look like in black & white when I'm shooting. And the tech support is weak. I emailed tech support to see if they are going to do a firmware update and suggested a b&w setting. I like to use an IR72 infrared filter. And they gave me a lame response. "We aren't going to add new chips to the camera." Tech support should know the difference between software and hardware. If your going to freak out about a little noise or you want to blow-up a photo to a poster size you can use Neat Image to remove any noise, and it's free for non-commercial use. There must be more designs for DSLR video rigs than there are fireflies on a summer evening in Texas. Many are more than the cost of the camera, and many are 'me-too' copies of those high-dollar, high-quality video rigs. The Opteka CXS-500 has a very down-to-earth price, and surprising quality and versatility. A DSLR cage is a building block, a scaffold on which to attach some (or most) of the 'add-ons' which transform a DSLR designed primarily for still photography into a system that can overcome many of the DSLRs short-comings, and enable the user to shoot video in a professional and productive manner.
A cage's primary role in life is to provide a solid, lightweight, adaptable anchor point for items like follow-focuses, video lights, video monitors, microphones, sound recorders, HDMI splitters, wireless receivers, and other small accessories that can be attached by either 1/4"-20 bolt, or cold shoe. There are thirty-four (!) 1/4"-20 holes spread out on all surfaces of this lightweight cage, and they are all threaded and the threads neatly chased.
The holes are both its greatest asset, and the only disappointment. The box proclaims "numerous 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting holes." But the model I received had only 1/4"-20 holes. A few 3/8"-16 holes would be most helpful, specifically for mounting microphones which often have 3/8"-16 holes in their shock mounts. One tip for using the holes to their best advantage; if you have any extra screws of the kind that come on Manfrotto mounting plates, they can be threaded through one of the holes on the rig and then they can turn freely to make mounting an accessory easy to get tightened down snugly.
Overall, the build quality is very good for an item in this price range, the versatility excellent,and the possibilities in constructing your own customized video rig are extremely broad.
The included handle is a nice touch, though the choice of blue rubber on an otherwise all black rig is questionable. The handle can both be reversed and mounted on the front or the back of the cage, though the rear location is slightly off-center. The handle is very firmly mounted, and the rig seems to be balanced well from the front mounting.
Hex wrenches are included for the hex head bolts, a nice touch.
Remember when buying an item like this, that you need to also budget for the many other parts that you will need, or want, once you have the cage. A cage usually is incorporated into a bigger rig, perhaps with front handles, a shoulder brace or shoulder mount, or other means to stabilize the whole rig. You may find you need a follow focus, a matte box, video monitor - the list goes on and on. And don't get so caught up in the equipment that you forget why you got all this stuff - it's the stories, silly! Go use this wonderful piece of equipment to tell stories, to make us laugh or cry or ask why.
As other posters have noted, the short 15mm rods are a welcome addition for those just starting out, though for those of us adapting this cage into an existing rig, they may become useful extras or back-ups.

Leica 21mm/ f1.4 ASPH (S8) Review

I have been working with this lens for only 1 week on an M9. It is without doubt one of the finest I have ever used. At f1.4, central image is extremely well detailed even at the minimum focusing distance of 0.7 meters, thanks to the floating elements. The corners are very slightly softer at 1.4 but more than able to render sufficient detail, and of course there is noticeable vignetting wide open. Stopping down yields fantastically crisp, 3 dimensional quality with beautiful tonality, corners to corners. It has a "just right" degree of contrast, not too much to clip highlights or shadows. Form f4 down, this lens is probably the finest quality 21mm lens made for the 35mm camera. At 1.4-2, it's the only 21mm of it's kind. the ability to achieve selective separation of subject and foreground and background yields a totally unique image at 21mm. Ridiculously expensive, and that good a lens. Lastly, for an external finder, I highly recommend the Zeiss 21mm finder which is gorgeous to look through.
