I should say right from the outset, the most important factor in buying a digital camera for me is the camera's zoom capability. Several years ago, I began my digital camera collection with a cheap Samsung (S630), followed the year after with the Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-8 (432mm zoom) and the next year with the FZ-18 (504mm).
It seems each year, camera companies try to outdo one another with the biggest zoom for the buck. Several weeks ago, I bought this camera with a mind-numbing 840mm zoom. Don't be surprised if the 1000 mm zoom comes out next year. Surprisingly, for a camera with this kind of capability, it is light as a feather and differtentiates itself from the other ultrazooms out there by eliminating the Electronic View Finder completely in favor of a 3" screen monitor (I suspect this omission may cost them sales). The instruction manual can be downloaded from the Olympus web site. The camera's software can be downloaded by connecting the camera to your computer (make sure your memory card has been removed to download software)
What also differentiates it from the others out there is that you can edit the still pictures you have taken using the special effects function from reducing red eye, shadow adjustment, adding/reducting color saturation, and cropping. Some of these functions were available in my Samsung S630, but in none of the more expensive Lumix models. With most digitals, if you want to edit your pictures, you would have to download them to your computer and use the camera's editing software or Photoshop.
By using Panorama function you can take up to 3 shots manually or automatically and the camera's computer "stitches" them together into one panoramic wide angle shot. quite a technological achievement.
Also differentiating this camera from its main competitor, the Fuji HS 10, a rather affordable price tag of $349 vs. $499 for the Fuji. The HS10 also has a smaller manual 720mm zoom and uses 4 AA batteries as its power source, which I consider a disadvantage in taking motion pictures. The SP 800uz has the capability of adjusting the focal distance during film recording in some modes, not always available in cameras of this class. Unlike the Lumix cameras, there is no hood lens included to take shots in bright sunlight, a slight disadvantage. There is no thread on the barrel for attaching wide angle or telephoto lenses, but with an 840 mm telephoto lens, why would you need one?
The camera comes with cables to connect to your computer and your HDTV to playback still and movie pictures in 720i high definition. A rechargeable lithium battery pack is offered instead of the Alkaline or NiMH rechargeable batteries in Olympus' previous models. If you take a lot of motion pictures, alkaline or rechargeable NiMH batteries must be replaced or recharged at more frequent intervals than most Lithium battery packs, or you could continue to invest in 12 packs of disposable alkaline cells.
The rating for the included standard Lithium battery pack is 900 mAh. Imported batteries with a rating of 1400 mAh are available from 3rd party suppliers. A higher Mah rating means you get more usage between charges since the battery has a higher storage capacity, similar to having a larger gas tank on your car. Battery capacity is important if you use your camera frequently or take motion pictures which drains the battery...and your memory card.
Another factor to consider is the camera's 2GB internal memory, making it possible to store many pictures without the use of a memory card. The camera has an app to transfer the pictures taken from the camera's internal memory to the memory card. The camera accepts SDHC cards up to 8GB, an important consideration if you take a lot of motion pictures.
There are several shooting modes available and the camera has a small user-friendly internal manual to explain each mode and what flash, ISO, aperture, white balance settings are available for each mode, making taking pictures almost foolproof. There is a manual pop up flash for low light conditions. For shots taken with the digital zoom you should use a tripod to avoid camera shake at the far ranges, a problem endemic to a lot of ultrazoom models, not just this particular model or manufacturer.
This is a great camera if you take sports pictures from the nosebleed seats, go on whale watches frequently, or want to take unobtrusive shots of your subjects from a distance. With an impressive ISO of up to 3200 sensitivity (unfortunately, the higher the ISO, the higher the distortion and graininess when enlarged for prints) you can also take excellent shots of moving subjects.
I rate this camera highly.

Any serious photographer already knows that Think Tank Photo bags are the best of the best. No need for me to ramble on about the extreme quality and build of these bags in general. The Airport Essentials is my 10th Think Tank Photo bag. I don't like these bags, I love these bags.

That said... I frequently fly with my photo gear. Usually one or two Canon DSLR bodies and 3 lenses, maybe a Speedlite and always my 13" MB Air and iPad. I still have plenty of room for all of my cables/connectors/batteries and my iPod with headphones that fold. The Airport Essentials always goes under the seat in front of me while on board. The bag fully loaded easily fits under the seat on any aircraft, even the silly shaped space with a window seat. It stands upright between the seats and provides super easy access to my MB Air and iPad during flight.

Wearing the backpack in airports is great and cuts down on fatigue. I shoot outdoors and recently spent a week with my Airport Essentials in Colorado. I was able to traverse with ease by foot, car and plane while keeping my entire kit with me. When I travel with larger bags I frequently break out smaller bags for excursions and of course find myself without a lens or body I want... not the case with the Airport Essentials! It is the perfect blend of size and capacity for me. Think Tank Camera Support Straps work perfectly with this bag as well which keep my hands free when not shooting.

After months of research in trying to find the best rifle scope for my M1A I ran across numerous reviews for the Vortex series and were recommended over the Leupold equivalent. The mrad reticle is spot on and the picture is crystal clear. The larger objective lens provides for excellent viewing in low light as well. The illuminated reticle is adjustable to be visible in everywhere from low-light to bright clear days. Also the illumination dial is the feature of an off position between every illumination power. [Post range update]: After finding the initial zero for the scope I was immediately able to switch between 4-12" steel targets at 200-300 yards without pause. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for an affordable scope that is on par with the big name brands. If you want better than this go with Nightforce or US Optics.

Ever since I started using a Canon camera (the old F model of the late Sixties), I have followed the rule that it is better to spend one's money on good glass than slightly better body quality. I chose this model over the XSi because of the price difference. The two megapixels more was not worth the $155.00 extra to me, and a year of use confirms my decision. As does the comparison by Bob Atkins. The dollars I saved went to buying a 7D this year, a major body quality upgrade, and the dollars saved from buying that rather than a 5D are going toward another first class lens. Make no mistake, this is a first class camera for almost any kind of photography. It is five star quality all the way across the board, and I recommend it highly to anyone on a tight budget.

I use this projector mainly for watching movies/tv on the "big screen," so it's important for me to have picture quality that compliments this. I spent a lot of time fiddling around with the projector's settings (easily changed by using the included remote), because the unit's provided settings leave something to be desired.

I wanted to post these on Amazon in the hope that it would help others trying to optimize their picture quality. The biggest thing for me was the saturation of the color red. The way the unit comes wired, "red" scenes in movies are ridiculously over-saturated.

Here are my settings for playing non-3d content:

Reference Mode: Movie
Brightness: 48 (the unit seemed way too bright to me. Good for 3d, though)
Contrast: 55
Color Setting: Red - Saturation: 98 Gain: 118
White Intensity: 4
Gamma: 1 (seemed to capture the most background detail)

Also, you have to mute the audio in "audio settings" if you don't want it coming out of the projector itself (which, connected to my home theater, I don't).

As far as the 3d-ready feature... it works great! I've paired the projector with the Viewsonic Vp3d1 Converter Box and they work together beautifully.

Bottom line: great projector, but you definitely have to fiddle around with it to suit your own needs. I hope this was helpful!!

Sony VCT-60AV Remote Control Tripod for use with Compatible Sony Camcorders Review

Wow I was really impressed when I took this out of the box. I started by setting up the tripod, fully extended the legs, attached the quick release plate to my Sony HDR-SR11, and plugged the remote handle into my camera.

First let me say this thing is very sturdy even on thicker carpet, its lightweight but solid and perfect for the HDR-SR11.

The remote features included are excellent and well worth the price alone:

Slow Zoom- This feature alone is worth the 70 bucks, its adds such a dramatic effect to your videos its great! Its set up very conveniently with a switch to activate/deactivate the slow zoom feature on the left side of the remote handle and a thumb controlled W/T rocker on the top of the control handle.

Guide Frame- This is also another feature not included with my camera, but added by this tripod. It actually proves to be kinda useful, especially when trying to get various people/objects in one shot. The grid drawn right on the screen (also appears in the viewfinder) is broke down into 9 sections to assist in framing and subject locations.

All in all I'm very happy with this tripod, I gotta shoot a wedding for a friend in June and this should do the trick very nicely, with a smooth fluid pan tilt, and the added features mentioned above I cant wait to see the final product.
